Dr. Schott is a native of the Monterey Peninsula. He earned his Doctorate in Physical Therapy from University of California San Francisco. After completing his education, he moved to New York City. His clinical experience includes outpatient orthopedics, sports rehabilitation with athletes ranging from middle school club sports teams to professional athletes, chronic pain, post-surgical procedures, and vestibular rehabilitation. After a couple of years in NYC, John returned to Monterey to join the Balance PT team and to be closer to family and friends.
John has a passion for sports and competition. He has been an athlete his whole life, participating in athletic competition including hockey, lacrosse, surfing, snowboarding, downhill mountain biking, golf, and tennis. While completing his undergraduate degree, he played on San Francisco State University’s men’s ice hockey team.
Dr. Schott’s treatment approach is focused on the patient’s goals and using movement as medicine. He prioritizes listening to his patients’ and having a one on one conversation where all of his patients’ questions and concerns are addressed. John emphasizes taking the time to educate his patients’ along with utilizing manual therapy, exercise prescription, and clinical reasoning to abate pain. He believes the most important part of a treatment session with him is that his patients are heard and feel empowered after treatment.
